Of Facebooking and Obama

Yesterday, I got bored. Naqib and I were having a chat on facebook. While chatting I decided to find the answer to a certain question that has been bugging my mind for awhile:

Does Barack Obama have facebook?

Well, after doing a search on facebook, I found out many things.

1)He has 4,664,327 supporters (+me)
2)There is a "Barack Obama" countdown group with 17,071 monthly active members all waiting for Obama to get chucked out of office. This is their Group picture:

3) There are a lot of people with the words "Barack" and "Obama" in their name.

After that, we decided to search for our teachers. Sadly, I couldn't find Cikgu Hizwan or Puan Wan Chek. Man.....

However, I do believe I found Cikgu Sivam. Then again, I'm not sure. His facebook profile has no picture.

Yup, that's all. I we searched for a few teachers, but there wasn't anything else we could find.

The Most Unforgetable Day in My Life

Sport's Day 2008, no doubt.

In school, we had an essay competition in which we had to tell about our most unforgetable day in our lives. I wrote about Sport's Day. Got second, Kay beat me to first... I think one of the reasons I lost was because I spelt 'unforgetable' wrongly.... Oh well, rest assured this will be a better story then the one written during the competition.

It started with the usual things you would normally do. Brush teeth bla bla bla, I'll skip to the part where we're in school. I doubt anyone will want to hear about me brushing my teeth anyway.

So, I arrived in school with my parents. My parents took their seats and I went off to join my fellow Red House friends to prepare for march past. Skiping all the boring details, we grouped behind the buildings surrounding the school field. No one could see us, which was good, since nearly everyone was nervous. I was at the back of our March Past constigen. I was on the left, Navin and Sue were somewhere near to me (I can't remember, we had so many practice runs in the days before where we had different positions so my mind is a bit jumbled up). The music started and slowly one by one we started marching out. Green House went first since they were first in the previous year overall, followed by Blue, Yellow and Red. By the way, Red House was not last actually, we were third. The thing is, people were so used to seeing Red House losing that they had the idea that were always last.

So after marching around the field and going through all the ceremony things and such, we finally got back to our House headquarters which was located by the field. There was a lot of running events and such, but frankly I didn't care. My teammates and I set our sights for the last event of the day - Tug-O-War, and trust me, it's more serious than it sounds.

To let you see how important winning the Tug-O-War event was, I shall take you back in time to prove my point.

A) We got second for it in 2007. Blue House got first
B) We got second for it in 2006. Blue House got first

C) I have no recollection of Red House winning it since the day I was born. Blue House always gets first

D) In the 2006 march past I took part in, the teacher commented on how Red House always got second in Tug-O-War. And Blue House always gets first

E) WE ALWAYS GET SECOND AND THOSE BLUE HOUSE DUDES ALWAYS GET FIRST!!!!! ARGHHH!!!! *VENTS*

But things have changed, in the previous years, we always lost to Blue House in the preliminaries but always made up for it by beating the other houses. This year though, we tied with them. We actually stood our ground.

It was going to be a tough fight. Our team was strong, but so were theirs. There was no clear winner here. Everyone in the tug-o-war team was feeling nervous, and there was no use covering up. Our seniors last year came to school to see the results of the match. Sure, how could we possibly get anymore nervous?

Well, we wasted time waiting for the Tug-O-War finale match. One reason why I can't forget Sport's Day 2008 is because its still so clear in my mind.

I remember:

Carrying a potted plant with Navin to the outside of the dewan. That potted plant was big man, we had to go through staircases and large crowds of parents. And we were barefooted...

Navin bringing his phone to school and showing me some song on his phone.

Navin, another friend I can't identify and I shared some energy drink before the Tug-O-War match.

Travis told me he had eaten chocolate to boost himself

Eating nasi lemak provided by our House teacher.

Anyways, after much agonising wait, it came. Tug-O-War. It's not funny ok! In the premliminaries, we had scraped into finals with the Blue House by defeating Yellow House in a insanely-close-to-losing match. On the first round, we defeated them, ok good, but we needed 1 more point to get into the finals or else we have to fight some other House. On the second round we nearly lost, but pulled our way back. We were this close to losing: || <---Something like that.

The fight was agonising and frustrating and definitely long. After winning, the judge teacher was laughing to himself.

So, here we were. I was in the front while Navin and Travis were at the back. A gigantic crowd was swarming around us. Our opponents were right in front of our eyes. Some V.I.P guy came up to start the match. Our teachers were by our side.

Then it started. The whistle blew and we pulled as though our lives were depending on that rope. The roar from the crowd was deafening. I remember my ears blocking up. Those people don't care for your hearing.....

We pulled our guts out (figuratively speaking of course) but we lost in the end. The first round went by. We switched sides.

The second round was intense. If we lost this round, we lose everything. The whistle blew once more and we pulled once again. The results were better this time -We Won.

So finally, the moment we've been waiting for. The Tie-Breaker round. Winner takes all. In my mind I was hoping I could tell the teacher in charge : "Excuse me teacher, could we continue this tommorow when we've taken a nice nap and got rid of the mud stuck in between our feet so we don't die?" but it didn't happen. My mouth was too lazy to speak. I trudged myself over to the other side together with my teammates.

Everyone was exhausted -including the spectators who had used up their voices. I could barely grip the rope without falling over and dying. Everyone had 50 aches in their back, not including the 5 000 000 others in all our bones.

The whistle blew again. Pitiful. Everyone in our team fell over and collapsed. Some persistant ones like me held on to the rope like no tommorow. The only thing we could hope is that our combined body weight would be too much for our opponents to drag along. Too bad, our opponents managed to drag us to the other side. The only thing I remember then was trying to formulate a plan to use my teacher's shoe (which was beside me at that time) to regain my balance and pull the rope from a better angle. The judge must have saw our pain and blew the whistle early.

Now, some of you must be saying "WHY ARE YOU BLOGGING ABOUT LOSING!!?!??!?!?!" Well the fact is, it was fun. I got a cool stain on my PJ t-shirt, a few aches and pains which persisted for a week or so and the fun of sliding over mud without any effort on my behalf.

Well, I've gotten over losing.

To finish of the story let me tell a small short story.

In Standard 6, Sue and I were Ketua Kebersihan in our class. We were sitting right in the back. You see, our dust pan was hung up while our rubbish bin was below. People liked to sharpen their pencils and put their dirt on the Dust pan. You see, this proved a problem since the dust usually blew away and dirtied up the class again. We usually told the people to stop throwing dirt into the pan. However after Sport's Day....

"Travis, don't throw your dirt into the pan..."
"Aiyoh Aaron, after Tug-o-War my back pains la. I can barely bend down..."

I let him off. I couldn't bend down either.

Unforgetable Memories of 2008

A few memories I forgot (was too lazy) to blog about.

Teacher's Day 2008

Now, you would be asking, why on earth would a student find Teacher's Day memorable? Well, this may explain some things....

It started out like this, Teacher's Day began with the usual 'Persembahans'. After (surviving) that, we had a super-long reccess while our teachers went for lunch in hte library. Now, a many students after getting bored of a super-long reccess decided to go back to class, including my class.

My friend Navin and I decided to surprise our class teacher (after all, he was one teacher who rocked), so we planned to tell some story of how Navin wounded/fell deadly sick/almost died to our teacher. Avyi decided to tag along. Navin would coordinate the class and get the surprises done while Avyi and I will tell some sad story of how Navin broke three bones while running around the classroom playing "jadi" and accidentally whacked into a glass window-plane and was to weak to even be brought down.

So of Avyi and I went. We planned our story(lie) on the way and waited outside the library where the teachers were 'makan'-ing. Cikgu Hizwan was taking a long time to finish (must have been taking seconds and thirds). While waiting, Pn Latifah (our very strict but caring headmistress) saw us outside(uh-oh) and asked us to take some food for the staff in the teacher's room (boleh tahan la). We took the chance to check back with Navin and the gang doing their preperations then went back down to wait some more.

While waiting, another teacher (our Science Teacher, also a teacher who rocks) saw us. We ended up letting him in on the plan. 5 minutes later, our class teacher came out (with curry-fied hands)

"Cikgu! Cikgu! Navin telah injure himself when he was running around the kelas!" Then we went on the explain how he couldn't walk so we couldn't bring him downstairs and how his leg was bleeding like mad. Thankfully, we didn't get carried away and say : "Cikgu! Navin telah mati!!" though we may have done so. Our teacher looked seriously shocked, and he wasn't just playing along, knowing we were lying. He actually believed us, after all, Navin was playful and the kind expected to get himself injured (<---Not an insult). That and the fact that we buttered up the lie with details and such. He rushed and washed his hands, then we led (or rather, were led him to our classroom.

A close look would see that the doors were closed, there wasn't any light in the classroom, and multiple students from other classes were gathered around the class (some saying things of how gruesome Navin's wound was etc.) He opened the classroom door and there came students rushing with presents and whatnot to him. Navin had managed to get a few students who had ghost mask (due to the previous "rumah Hantu" event in our school for the past few days -- It was Hari Usahawan also I think) to pose also.

Oh dang, I'm long-winded. Oh well, there's more to that then why it really is memorable. (haha, you people will suffer!!)

For the past few days, we had Hari Usahawan. A Rumah Hantu room was set up and a few other games too. David, Navin, Avyi, Darren and I decided to go together. And so we did. I have to say, the scariest part of the Rumah Hantu was the queues. Really. We got squashed while lining up. Finally we got in.

It was funny. The setting was dark and you could barely see, but it was funny. Imagine people you know, dressed up with weird masks and costumes trying to scare you. One 'ghost' was to pop out of a locker and scare people. he popped out all right, but Navin put him back right in. As soon as the ghost came out of the locker, Navin shoved him back in and closed the door on him. Poor guy.

Another time, one ghost came up to Navin and put his hands to his neck in a mock choke. Navin pushed him. "You nak gaduh ke!?!" and the poor 'ghost' ran away. So much for scary. We were laughing our guts out as we came outside.

We came in a second time again to find that the locker was fully opened and no ghost was inside there. They learnt they're lesson.

I don't know why, but I'm addicted to Switchfoot songs of the late. They've always been my favourite band, and I've always known that they're songs have strong meaning, but only now do I really know how strong a meaning it has.

More of School and Homework

School's good. Mainly because I've finished most of my homework. Which is not a(n) (good) excuse for teachers to give me more.

Today was Unit Beruniform practice. I ended up joining St. Johns (which rocks by the way.) Nuff said.

Other than that, I interviewed Tan Tse Hao, leader of the ExamsMustDie movement. Too bad I forgot how it went.....sorry Tan...

Anyway, with most of my homework gone, who knows, maybe I'll be able to complete Fragments of a Dream this year(Yeah right, dream on.) Or perhaps Guardian. Frankly, I don't know which to continue.... Fragments is a relatively basic plot but is written better than Guardian but Guardian has a really complex plot but is written badly..... Kay Lim, help!

Yup, thats all. Get lost. Sorry, Cya.

Wait, I forgot, I got piano class, which basically destroys hope of any story writing for the moment....

Of Homework And Secondary School

I have to say, secondary school isn't that bad. The teachers are nice and it's a relatively good place. With that said, I'm sure that there will be some who are willing to argue with me on that point. Oh well, you can't please everyone.

Still, I miss primary school. I miss Jin pushing me into everyone I'm talking to, beating the daylights out of me in Batu Seremban, beating the daylights out of me literally and his "CHILL WOMAN!!!!" phrase. I miss Whitney's life-draining rants (<---not an exaggeration) about injustice/torture/death, Cikgu Hizwan's jokes and Pn. Wan Chek's popular qoutes (After 20 years of teaching, all your tricks are in my pocket!/Don't put words into my mouth!)

*Sigh*, good days, good days. Well, the amount of homework in Secondary school is giganticly humoungously big (correct word?) in amount. Still ok though, my mentallity is still in intact.

Anyways, I got Anggerik for my class. Kay Lim got Kenanga, Naeem got Dahlia, Travis was put in Kiambang and Jin ended up in BU3. Other than Alif, Sue, Alim, Amirah and Bakthiar, there wasn't anyone I knew in Anggerik. Soon though, I met a few people like Adam Harith, Naqib, Ming Huay, Tan (who's blog is so full of colourful language that I dare not link him. Visit www.examsmustdie.blogspot.com for his blog, Elson,Camillia and this guy who's name is Aaron Chai Jin Yen. I like his name, at least the Aaron part that is.

Yup, that's all I guess.

By the way, Encik Sivam (my IT teacher) said he can find our blogs, I wonder if he can. Most probably he's capable, after all, it's not that hard.

Let Your Love Be Strong

In this world of news...
I've found nothing new...
I've found nothing pure...
Maybe I'm just idealistic to assume that truth,
Could be fact and form...
That love could be a verb,
Maybe i'm just a little misinformed...

As the dead moon rises,
And the freeways sigh,
Let the trains watch over the tides and the mist,
Spinning circles in our skies tonight.
Let the trucks roar in,
From Los Angeles...
Maybe our stars are unanimously tired.

Let the wars begin,
Let my strength wear thin,
Let my fingers crack,
Let my world fall apart,
Train the monkeys on my back to fight,
Let it start tonight,
When my world explodes,
When my stars touch the ground,
Falling down like broken satellites.

Let your love be strong,
And I don't care what goes down,
Let your love be strong enough to weather through the thunder cloud,
Fury and thunder clap like stealing the fire from your skies.

All of my world resting on your love.
